Job Description
Skills Required: Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communications skills including active listening skills.
Strong strategic planning, marketing, project management, analytical, critical thinking and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.
Strong skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints.
Experience in marketing and communications.
Ability to create flyers, posters, and visual graphics with software tools including the Adobe Creative Suite - Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, or another editing tool.
Extremely punctual and able to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Required to attend all SUA Meetings.



Skills Preferred: Broad knowledge of the SUA, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure and current issues of concern.
Strong knowledge and skills in financial and personnel management, including management techniques, guiding principles, relevant laws, policies and best practices.
Strong skills to select, train, supervise, guide and evaluate volunteers and/or staff, and take corrective action as required.
Previous experience with student governments and/or student organizations.
Previous experience serving in a student leadership position a plus.
Experience with Web Content Management System (WCMS).

100% Job Function Summary
Involves developing digital and media communications and visuals for the Student Union Assembly (SUA). Includes website design, development and management, or producing communications or instruction using the web, audio, video, and other digital media, which may involve content creation, designing, production and programming.

Generic Scope
Spends the majority of time achieving organizational objectives through creating digital and media content. Establishes digital media goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives.

Custom Scope
Manages digital communication programs and/or projects, having comprehensive responsibility for digital communications for strategic digital communication needs of the SUA. Reviews and approves recommendations. Provides guidance to SUA Executive Officers and Interns and support to the Student Development and Engagement Manager to achieve goals of outreach and marketing for the SUA.

Department Overview
The Student Union Assembly (SUA) is the official undergraduate student government at UC Santa Cruz. Our organization represents over 14,000 undergraduate students on the administrative, local, state, and federal level. Founded in 1985 to establish the Banana Slug as our official mascot, the SUA has been dedicated to three decades of public service to the UCSC student body.

Responsibilities of this role include:

40% - Website Development
Responsible for updating and managing the SUA website and designing the layout of webpages. Expected to create eye-catching and interesting content. Creates a website that is easy to navigate and detailed for student accessibility and understanding. Responsible for creativity and updating content on a regular basis.

30% - Graphic Design
Works with Executive Officers, Interns, and the Assembly to implement creative outreach material and ideas, such as website development, new logos, merchandise, etc. Creates graphics to enhance marketing efforts via flyers, pamphlets, brochures, and swag used for the SUA. Helps the SUA with graphic design needs.

20% - Photography and Media
Responsible for capturing photos of SUA activities, events, programs, or campus life, as requested by the SUA. Will have autonomy on media and photography creation. The finished product will be assessed by the following Officer, Intern, Assembly or Student Development and Engagement Manager for publication.

5% - Management and Recruitment
-Management: Advises and consults on all aspects of digital communications, including policy interpretation, strategic planning, marketing and problem resolution. Selects, trains, manages, motivates, evaluates, and, as necessary, take corrective action, with any digital media staff and/or volunteers responsible for producing a variety of digital communication pieces; may also manage volunteer support staff. Ensures production of quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints.
-Recruitment: Responsible for recruiting any volunteer and/or staff for digital media positions. Develop plan for recruitment outreach for any volunteers, shadows, or staff. Execute recruitment events for new positions:
Schedule the recruitment timeline and outreach
Schedule tabling and publicity during recruitment
Design and purchase of flyers
Prepare slides and booking rooms/spaces for the information sessions
Prepare applicant evaluation system
Communicate with all applicants about trainings and updates

5% - Miscellaneous
Any other duties as assigned by the Student Development and Engagement Manager or Executive Officers.
