Job Description
Skills Required: Strong knowledge of all aspects of event planning from beginning, to middle, to end, including pre- and post-program survey implementation and assessment.
Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communications skills including active listening skills.
Strong strategic planning, marketing, project management, analytical, critical thinking and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.
Strong skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints.
Experience in marketing and communications.
Extremely punctual and able to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Must be ambitious with a go-getter attitude.
May be required to attend some SUA Meetings weekly on Tuesday evenings each quarter.

Skills Preferred: Broad knowledge of the SUA, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure and current issues of concern.
Strong knowledge and skills in financial and personnel management, including management techniques, guiding principles, relevant laws, policies and best practices.
Strong skills to select, train, supervise, guide and evaluate volunteers and/or staff, and take corrective action as required.
Previous experience with student governments and/or student organizations.
Previous experience serving in a student leadership position a plus.

100% Job Function Summary
Under the supervision of the Student Development and Engagement Manager (SDEM), this position will directly support the SDEM to oversee the general day to day operations of the SUA. Job responsibilities includes but is not limited to, the following: office management and front desk/administrative responsibilities, event calendar and staff schedule management, program, orientation, and training development and support, fiscal management and support, and research and assessment.

Generic Scope
In collaboration with the SDEM, develops the establishment of organization goals and objectives. Ensures SUA student staff and Assembly members remain in compliance with SUA Constitution, Bylaws, UCSC and UC policies and adheres to the organization’s internal operations and procedures.

Custom Scope
Have comprehensive knowledge and responsibility for SUA’s internal operations and procedures. Ensures office workflow and organization moves efficiently. Provides guidance to SUA Executive Officers and Interns and support to the Student Development and Engagement Manager to achieve goals and objectives of the SUA.

Department Overview
The Student Union Assembly (SUA) is the official undergraduate student government at UC Santa Cruz. Our
organization represents over 14,000 undergraduate students on the administrative, local, state, and federal level.
Founded in 1985 to establish the Banana Slug as our official mascot, the SUA has been dedicated to three decades of public service to the UCSC student body. The SUA is also the official voice of undergraduate students on campus-wide and system-wide committees. The SUA promotes activism, civic participation, discussion, debate, and awareness of public issues from a variety of perspectives and viewpoints. The SUA hosts campus-wide rallies, conferences, and educational forums that trains students in direct action organizing, representation, and student advocacy.

Responsibilities include the following:

30% - Front Desk and Office Management
Responsible for welcoming and greeting visitors at the front desk. Respond to guest questions, concerns, and other inquiries about the SUA via in-person or email correspondence. Responsible for opening and/or closing the SUA Office. Manages office supply re-stock and purchase. Keeps the office clean and organized. Responsible for reserving rooms for the SUA, managing and updating the SUA event calendar. Schedule any meetings for SUA student or progfessional staff.

25% - Training and Orientation
Works with the SDEM to train and onboard new student staff employee. Support the SDEM with payroll and hiring needs. Collaborate with the SDEM to develop and implement SUA Orientation & Training for Officers, Interns, Assembly Representatives, and other SUA affiliates.

25% - Program Development and Support
Lead and develop quarterly social and team-building events for the SUA Officers, Interns, Assembly Representatives, and other SUA affiliates. Work within a budget and make purchase orders. Must have strong event planning skills, be detail-oriented, organized, and have leadership experience. May oversee a team of volunteers.
Review SUA Officer and Intern program planning details to ensure proper implementation in a timely manner, all needs to successfully conduct program is in place, and ensure program/activity fall within SUA Constitution, Bylaws, and UC Policy. Ensure that program/activity align with SUA goals and objectives.

10% - Fiscal Management and Support
Support the SDEM to prepare information intake for forms needed for student travel and programming both pre- and post-trip/program. Ensure that the SUA is spending funds in an efficient way and within the budget. Ensure that program/activity spending fall within SUA Constitution, Bylaws, and UC Policy.

5% - Research and Assessment
Develop surveys to review SUA programs and activities, SUA Internship, and Assembly Representative overall experience. Conduct assessment review to analyze if SUA is meeting organizational goals and objectives.

5% - Miscellaneous
Any other duties as assigned by the SDEM.
