Job Description
Skills Required: Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clear, concise information in person and over the phone. Cash register and cash handling experience strongly preferred. Ability to use multi-line phone system and to make announcements over PA system desired. Experience using Google Drive, word processing, database (Filemaker Pro), and spreadsheet software (Excel). Good organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and to work accurately with frequent interruptions to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a professional manner. Ability to learn to assist and manage special events; willingness to learn and share information about the Seymour Center with the public.
Skills Preferred: Excel experience, advanced skills in Microsoft Word, data entry, strong writing skills, knowledge of graphics and page layout software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), artistic skills, marine sciences background a plus, but not required. Event coordinating experience and retail and/or restaurant experience is helpful. Valid California Driver License preferred.
Percentage of Time Duty
40% Administrative: collect admission fees, provide information to the public in person and on the phone, check in visiting groups and tours, maintain clean and professional front desk area. Assist as needed with Seymour Center facility rental events.
40% Shop: sales, cashiering, light cleaning, receive and stock merchandise.
10% Data entry: generate reports, update database.
10% Clerical: file, photocopy, prepare flyers and mailings, run errands to campus and town.

Special Comments: This postion begins ASAP and continues through September 30, 2019 with the potential to continue trhough the 2019-2020 school year provided you qualify for a work-study award. During the school year, you must have a work-study award to obstain this position.

You must be available for weekend shifts and over holiday breaks. Must be willing to wear Seymour Center uniform. (Khakis and polo shirt.)

The position is located off-campus at the Seymour Center, part of UCSC's Long Marine Lab on the Coastal Science Campus. It is extremely helpful if you have reliable transportation. Metro Bus service to the Coastal Science Campus is available from the main campus. A successful candidate must complete a fingerprinting/background check.
