Job Description
Skills Required: Must have excellent professional and interpersonal skills. Candidate must be in good academic and judicial standing. Candidate must be comfortable leading and facilitating activities for groups of 15-30 new UCSC students.

Orientation programs involve constant change, reorganization, and evaluation. Orientation Leader must be reliable, punctual, energetic, responsible, flexible, a team player, and demonstrate strong verbal communication skills. Orientation Leader must be ready to make decisions, to take initiative, and to accept additional responsibilities. Leaders are responsible for facilitating and supporting the transition of new students and family members. Leader must be self-motivated; be enthusiastic and spirited ambassadors for UCSC; have a respectful attitude towards Orientation staff, and new students and families; able to take direction; possess a positive attitude and has a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of new first-year students, transfer students, and families.

Candidate must possess the ability to: communicate and work with diverse groups of people; answer questions about the UCSC campus and its resources (training will be provided); reflect the educational mission of UC Santa Cruz; and possess the ability to facilitate and manage large groups.

All staff is required to setup and breakdown for all sessions and workshops throughout orientation.

Skills Preferred: Bilingual. Experience with public speaking. Experience in customer service/public relations. Demonstrates campus leadership and involvement.
Percentage of Time Duty
60% Leaders will serve as resources for new students and family members. Leaders will greet and direct participants to sessions; facilitate icebreakers/welcoming activities for students and family members; attend and actively participate in all orientation training sessions; assist with all aspects of the orientation programming, including preparation of orientation activities, set-up and breakdown, and check-in. Ensure that students and families are following their schedule and participating in all orientation programs/events. Be knowledgeable of campus services and resources in order to provide referrals for new students and families. Assist students in understanding their academic responsibilities. Serve as a positive and resourceful representative of the University for new students and their guests. Represent UC Santa Cruz in a professional manner at all times.
30% Attend all mandatory information and training sessions: be present, participate actively, and be on time for all information and training sessions and orientation days, and be a resource to new Leaders.
10% Other duties as designated by the Program Coordinators and/or Director of Campus Orientation.

Special Comments: Orientation Leaders are required to attend all information sessions and trainings, and be available each orientation day.

-- In the summer, be available to work from 8:00am to 7:00pm during information and training sessions; and from 5:30am to 7:00pm each orientation day- expect to work 12-14 hour days during orientation days (subject to overtime pay).

-- Participate in all required information sessions and trainings.

-- Must be fully available July 12-August 3.

-- Housing may be provided during summer employment period only.

-- Required information sessions are not paid; required trainings are paid.
