MORE INFO: Be familiar with the mechanics of artwork selection and creative presentation. Be able to work independently and in an organized manner. Be comfortable interacting with students, faculty, and staff to advertise the resource and to recruit artists. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to network with campus units/orgs and communicate with interested artists. Be able to schedule exhibits and coordinate publicity efforts. Conduct artist outreach beginning as early as Welcome Week (2020). Meet regularly with supervisor. Use Google Calendar to keep the schedule of curated shows as well as your personal schedule up to date.
Skills Preferred: Cowell student preferred. Background or experience in visual arts or art history. Knowledge of Photoshop or InDesign.
Percentage of Time Duty
40% Solicit and present at least 10 exhibits each year in the Dizikes Art Cases at Cowell College. Coordinate all aspects of exhibition: network with the Cowell students and the broader UCSC community and organizations, make contact with artists, solicit artwork, assess quality/suitability, schedule times to install artwork, ensure proper handling and return of artwork.
30% Install and dismantle exhibits. Maintain case cleanliness. Order supplies needed for exhibits.
25% Publicize exhibits in a variety of ways including flyers, newsletter, email and social media. Acquire digitalized artwork and artist bios for inclusion in publicity.
5% Meet with supervisor every 2-4 weeks to review scheduled exhibit timeline and outreach efforts.
