Job Description
Skills Required: Under the direction of Housing Facilities Staff, this is an entry level position which involves the repair and upkeep of residential campus buildings located in the Central Zone. Applicants must have the ability to follow directions and pay close attention to detail. Applicants must be able to work cooperatively with a team of 6-12 other individuals and supervisor. Must be reliable and punctual. Must be self-motivated, willing to work in a team atmosphere, and supportive to co-workers. Must be flexible and work where help is needed, including occasional office administration work with the SBMW.

Some experience with painting, maintenance and the ability to work with power and hand tools is desired but not mandatory as training will be provided.

This position is full time (40 hours a week) throughout the summer (June through September). We will not be able to hire part-time employees, half-time employees, or summer session students that are taking classes that conflict with the work schedule.

Possible work available during June move-out and September move-in weekend.

Special Conditions of Employment:
Ability to carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Ability to use ladders, reach overhead and make repetitive motions. Under proper direction and with protective equipment work in areas with latex paint fumes and airborne dust. University safety training will be required.
Skills Preferred: License to drive in the state of CA.

Percentage of Time Duty
60% Duties will include extensive interior and some exterior painting. Washing of walls, doors and ceilings. Wall preparation, basic drywall patching and spackling, sanding of related woodwork such as walls, baseboards and window sills. Paint doors, hand rails, etc. as directed. After being properly instructed meet university and OSHA safety standards for working with various paints, chemicals and solvents. Remove, sand, refinish, and replace bedroom and lounge furniture. Move supplies between work sites. Make sure supplies are stocked and supply rooms are organized.
40% Misc. work including: Removal of trash and items left by students, removal of carpets from bedrooms and halls, installation of cove base, removal of furniture from areas to be carpeted, and light maintenance. Load and unload furniture and supplies as dictated by the job. Perform any extra facilities related projects in preparation for the new academic year. Some light year-end custodial work may be required.
