Job Description
Skills Required: Prior experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, painting, or construction work preferred but not required. Training in maintenance tasks will be provided. Must be able to work a minimum of 3 hours at a time during our hours of operation 7:30-4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Demonstrated skill in the safe use of hand- and power tools.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions, and pay close attention to detail, and exercise good judgment. Ability to work under moderate supervision in a cooperative, team-focused workplace. Must be able to problem solve, take initiative and complete tasks as assigned.

The ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with diverse student and staff population.

Ability to safely lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. The ability to work from step ladders, to perform work overhead, and to perform tasks that require repetitive motions.

Skills Preferred: Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.

Percentage of Time Duty
70% Perform maintenance and repairs in housing areas; work with hand and power tools; assist with preventive maintenance and minor repairs to plumbing fixtures, door hardware and windows; snake drains; replace light bulbs and clean light covers; perform minor wood work when instructed; move, repair and refinish furniture; assist in projects as directed by the Senior Building Maintenance Worker.

Prepare and paint interior and small exterior surfaces; make minor drywall repairs; and clean-up housing areas as assigned. Move furniture, tools, and equipment; mask areas not being painted and cover furniture and flooring. Remove or paint over graffiti.
15% Assist residential recycling program, assist with the collection and proper recycling of our universal waste program. Take inventory and pack collected household hazardous and universal waste (batteries, paint, fluorescent light bulbs, etc.) and deliver to designated collection points.
10% Clean floors, windows, and walls.

Distribute household cleaning supplies to residents.
5% Make pickups and deliveries using University pickup truck.

Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Candidate must be self-motivated and have a positive and responsible attitude towards work. Must be reliable and punctual.

This position is part time during the school year with possibility of employment through summer, 2008.
