Job Description
Skills Required: Availability to work end of Spring quarter and to work from September 2019 through June 2020, the duration of the 2019-20 school year.
Interest in and knowledge of sustainability issues including, but not limited to, green/sustainable building, food systems, purchasing, transportation, curriculum, water, land use and planning, recycling, climate protection practices, etc.

Excellent motivation and organizational skills with ability to prioritize work and work independently in a fast-paced environment with pressures of deadlines.

Excellent speaking and conversational skills.

Excellent writing skills.

Established, positive relationships with UCSC student organizations, staff and faculty.

An excellent understanding of the social media environment.

Ability to plan and coordinate complex schedules and meetings.

Experience with using email for regular and consistent communication.

Experience with Google environment such as calendar, drive, slides, and sheets.

Experience with image editing software and/or online platform

Skills Preferred: * Excellent command of Microsoft Word and Excel
* Experience with formatting similar documents
• Excellent command of Social Media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)
* Experience with MailChimp and Blogger

Percentage of Time Duty
50% Outreach and communication- With team develop and deliver an annual education and outreach plan, and an independent work plan for yourself, for educating the campus about sustainability through classes, at tabling events, and through media communications including the newsletter, blog, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and website. Plan and coordinate quarterly events. Develop and disseminate outreach materials including flyers, brochures, quarterly reports, and news stories.
20% Documentation and Record Keeping- Maintain newsletter and contacts database; quarterly lists of classes and events; and review and update, as needed, the Sustainability Office Outreach and Communication Plan. Track and record metrics for all office events and outreach efforts.
20% Administrative duties including checking and responding to emails, editing documents, scheduling meetings, updating databases and other miscellaneous tasks
10% Project management - Design and implement various sustainability projects related to outreach

Special Comments: The Education and Outreach Associate (E&O Associate) will provide leadership in a wide variety of areas related to coordination of campus sustainability efforts. With the Education and Outreach team, the incumbent will develop educational materials including a monthly newsletter, social media, and assist with the website occasionally. Will also conduct outreach through presentations and tabling events, help plan events including the Inter-Org Retreat, Earth Day and sustainability-related events. The incumbent will gain experience in peer-to-peer leadership, project management, marketing, event planning and outreach. This position is for the entire 2019-20 academic year.
