Job Description
Skills Required: Under the supervision of the Receiving Manager and Assistant Director/Course Materials Manager, the Shipping and Receiving Clerk will primarily assist with receiving, processing, stocking and shelving/merchandising textbooks. Duties include moving, stacking, packing and unpacking cartons, boxes and equipment. Applicant will be responsible for processing purchase orders and receiving documents, and accurately updating inventory in our system. Must be able to perform heavy manual lifting (up to 50 lbs). Must be able to follow safe lifting practices and procedures. Additionally, position requires helping customers locate their course books and other customer duties.

Candidate must be able to work during quarterly openings and school breaks including summer vacation. Must be extremely attentive to detail and have experience with database systems or accurate data entry. Must be able to work independently.

Although primarily assigned to Course Materials Department, may be periodically reassigned to other store areas, under different supervisors, but performing closely similar duties, depending on current store needs.
Skills Preferred:
Percentage of Time Duty
50% Move cartons, boxes, equipment from/to designated receiving area. Prepare appropriate receiving documents to verify vendor, freight carrier, number of cartons, condition of cartons. Will notify supervisor to inspect and record damage at time of delivery prior to accepting or moving carton. Under direction will sort and open cartons, provide receiving manager or senior student receiving staff with accurate counts. Will price and stock merchandise. Will do frequent inventories.
35% Price and stock textbooks. Straighten books on shelves. Pick up returned books from customer service area daily and then shelve the returned books immediately, particularly during rush. Bring books up from buyback during buyback.
15% Assist textbook staff with customer service, help customers locate their courses and answer questions about required, recommended, new or used books. Back up Textbook floor staff and General Book Department as needed.
Clean, dust, straighten shelves, empty trash, keep receiving area clean and safe, and move empty cartons to appropriate refuse bins. Will perform general maintenance throughout facility as directed. Move fixtures, tables and chairs as needed within the store and at events.

You must be able to work independently. You must be available for work over quarter and administrative breaks, including long holidays. Experience in shipping/receiving. Familiarity with Macintosh computers helpful.
