Job Description
Skills Required: –Ability to learn to coordinate facility rental reservations for UC and public groups hosting events at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center; willingness to learn and share information about the Seymour Center with the public.
–Must be detail-oriented and able to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills.
-Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clear and concise information verbally and in writing. Must maintain a positive and professional manner at all times, including in-person, via email, and over the phone. Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clients, vendors, volunteers, and staff.
-Must be dependable and able to work weekdays, weekends, evenings, and during school breaks including spring, summer (up to 30-40 hours), and winter breaks.
-Must possess a current, valid driver’s license and be willing to wear business-casual attire or the Seymour Marine Discovery Center uniform when working with the public.
Skills Preferred: -Event coordinating, retail, and/or restaurant experience is helpful.
-Experience using Google applications, Microsoft Office Suite, database systems (preferably Mac and FileMaker Pro), and strong writing skills is a plus.
Percentage of Time Duty
75% Facility rental coordination: respond to email, phone, and in-person facility rental inquiries; schedule and book facility rental reservations; manage event files to ensure client compliance with facility rental requirements; correspond with clients regarding payment and completion of forms; process facility rental business forms; maintain up-to-date event database; act as Manager on Duty during facility rental events which includes being the main point of contact during events and enforcing Seymour Center policies and procedures; help maintain facility rental equipment and event spaces including light cleaning.
20% Miscellaneous: general office duties (filing, mailing, copying, errands); development support, including fundraising event assistance; other duties as assigned.
5% Admission desk: Seymour Center admissions desk greeting, providing information, and cashiering.

The position is located off-campus at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, part of UC Santa Cruz's Long Marine Lab on the Coastal Science Campus. Metro Bus service to the Coastal Science Campus is available from the main campus, but the position will require a work schedule outside of Metro Bus service hours. Reliable transportation is a must.

This position begins ASAP and requires that you qualify for a work-study award.

A successful candidate must complete a fingerprinting/background check.

Work schedule will include weekdays, evenings, weekends, as well as summer, winter, and springs breaks.
