Job Description
Skills Required: Must be detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently. Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with ability to provide clear and concise information to the public and co-workers. Must be flexible and able to work in a sometimes fast-paced, changing environment. Good organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and to work accurately with frequent interruptions to meet deadlines. Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with volunteers, staff, and interns. Must be able to interact with the public in a positive, professional manner. Ability to learn to manage special events; willingness to learn and share information about the Seymour Center with the public. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, evenings, and during school breaks including finals week, spring, summer (up to 30-40 hours), and winter breaks. Must have data entry, word processing, and email experience. Neat and clean appearance, including willingness to wear staff uniform (Seymour Center navy blue polo shirt with khaki pants) while working. Possess a valid California driver's license.
Skills Preferred: Event coordinating experience and retail and/or restaurant experience is helpful, but not required. Experience using Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, database systems (preferably Mac and FileMaker Pro), and strong writing skills a plus.
Percentage of Time Duty
20% Clerical duties: database entry, function sheets, report generation, form letters, production of labels, filing, phone calls, emailing, photocopying, packet assembly, mailings, errands.
75% Main facility rental coordinator. Receive and manage all email, and phone correspondence. Serve as the point person for facility rental clients. Answer facility rental inquiries, scheduling gate hours, meet with facility rental clients, schedule and coordinate their events, complete all facility rental business forms, correspond directly with the business and risk management offices regarding payment and completion of forms, act as main Manager on Duty personnel--which includes main point of contact during events and enforcing Seymour Center policies and procedures. Helps maintain AV equipment and other equipment needed for facility rentals. Light cleaning duties to maintain facility rental space.
5% Admission desk duties: Seymour Center admissions desk greeting, providing information, and cashiering.

Special Comments: GENERAL INFORMATION:
This position is located off-campus at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center at the Coastal Science Campus. While there are buses that go directly to the Seymour Center, position requires working outside of bus schedules--reliable transportation is a must!

This position is a work-study only position during the academic year.

A successful candidate must complete a fingerprinting/background check.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Work schedule will include weekdays, evenings, weekends, as well as summer, winter, and springs breaks.

The position is located off-campus at the Seymour Center, part of UCSC's Long Marine Lab on the Coastal Science Campus. It is extremely helpful if you have reliable transportation. Metro Bus service to the Coastal Science Campus is available from the main campus, but position will require a work schedule outside of Metro Bus service hours.
