Job Description
Skills Required: Under the supervision of Housing Facilities staff, this entry-level position involves the repair and upkeep of residential campus buildings. Applicant must have the ability to follow directions and pay close attention to detail. Must be able to work cooperatively with others. Must be reliable and punctual. Must be self-motivated, willing to work in a team atmosphere and be supportive of co-workers. Must be flexible and work where help is needed, including occasional office administration work.

Some experience with painting and/or maintenance and the ability to work with power and hand tools is desired but not mandatory, as training will be provided.

Special Conditions of Employment:

Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. Ability to work from stepladders, reach overhead and make repetitive motions. Under supervision, using best practices and necessary protective equipment, incumbents will work in areas with latex paint fumes and airborne dust. Job-related health and safety training will be provided.

Please note: This position is full time (40 hours a week) throughout the summer (June through Sep.). We will not be able to hire part-time, half-time, Summer Session students, or anyone who will not be able to complete the entire summer.

Skills Preferred: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Percentage of Time Duty
60% Duties will include extensive interior and some exterior painting; Washes walls, doors and ceilings; prepares wall, fills holes and makes basic patches to drywall; sands of related woodwork such as walls, baseboards and window sills. Paints doors, handrails, etc. as directed.
Removes, sands, refinishes, and moves bedroom and lounge furniture.
Moves supplies between work sites. Makes sure supplies are stocked and supply rooms are organized.
35% Miscellaneous tasks, including: Removes trash and items left by students; removes carpets from bedrooms and halls; installs cove bases; removes furniture from areas to be carpeted; and performs light maintenance tasks as directed. Loads and unloads furniture and supplies at job sites. May perform light year-end custodial work, as well as other facilities related tasks in preparation for the new academic year.
5% Other duties as assigned. Such as custodial and grounds work.
