Job Description
Skills Required: Background in sales and/or customer service preferred. Requires excellent communication and organization skills. Includes extensive sales team interaction and the ability to meet regularly with on- and off-campus advertising clients. Must meet regularly with ad sales manager and demonstrate progressive increases in advertising revenue, on a week to week basis. Requires self-motivation and must work well in teams.

***Must be able to work during summer in Santa Cruz.***
Skills Preferred: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Lightroom)

Percentage of Time Duty
75% Under supervision of City on a Hill Press advertising sales manager and the general supervision of the Student Media director and assistant director, the advertising sales assistant will develop and sell advertising to fund the printing and operation costs of City on a Hill Press (CHP), the UCSC student news paper of record, on a weekly basis. Duties include: on-going personal contact with clients, emailing/faxing CHP ad rates and distribution information; follow through with all client assignments; timely completion of all documentation including contracts, design insertion orders, and all other relevant information; concise communication with the CHP ad design manager concerning new order ads; timely completion of monthly commission report, call sheets, and time cards.
20% Other duties include: maintain all advertising sales filing systems; daily attention to email and voice messages, collaborative training of new sales staff; attendance to outreach functions including orientations, preview days, etc. Assist in CHP newspaper surveys for demographic information. Attend and participate in business and lead team meetings, communicating ad related material to staff at large. Participating in emergency out-or-the-norm meetings.
5% Miscellaneous duties as required.

Special Comments: Pay rate is based on commission structure. Applications and interviews will be conducted on an "as needed" basis. A car is not necessary for this position, but it is necessary for students to be able to travel throughout the city of Santa Cruz to meet with clients both on and on-campus, on an ongoing and regular basis. This position requires the ability to easily meet people and dialogue with individuals and groups. The position requires extensive training and a strong commitment from applicants. Consideration for awarding the positions is based upon student's ability to work from quarter to quarter, as well as working over summer months.
