Skills Required: •     Strong leadership, communication, writing and interpersonal skills
•     Must be comfortable presenting information to and speaking in front of large groups of people;
•     Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and establish and maintain effective working relationships;
•     Ability to deal with multiple tasks, deadlines and projects in a busy professional environment
•     Ability to work some evenings and weekends for campus field trips and other transfer events;
•     Must maintain a consistent schedule throughout the academic quarter and update supervisor of any schedule changes with adequate notice;
•     Experience in working with individuals from diverse cultures, ethnic groups, lifestyles, socio-economic classes and backgrounds.
•     Reliable transportation to travel to and from school sites and the main office;
•     Strong computer skills;
•     Possession of a valid California Driver’s license and car insurance;

Skills Preferred: Desired Qualifications: Fed Work Study preferred.

• Students who have transferred to UCSC from one of our 13 regional community colleges are strongly preferred;
• Academic advising and/or tutorial experience;
• Familiarity with UCSC student organizations, campus events, and general student life at UCSC;
• Familiarity with graphic design programs and social networks.
• Experience working with or participating in the following programs: EOPS, Puente, UMOJA, MESA, Cal-SOAP, Cal-Teach, EAOP, TRIO

Percentage of Time Duty
70% Assist in academic and career peer advising to TPP participants;
• Engage in one-on-one peer counseling with students via email, phone and in person;
• Communicate and follow-up with student inquiries about transferring, the UC system, the UC application, financial aid, and other topics;
• Assist with recruitment and retention of TPP participants at assigned high schools and community colleges;
• Tabling and general promotion of the University of California, UCSC, and the UC Santa Cruz Transfer Prep Program;
• Assist in providing academic enrichment sessions to prospective transfer students (i.e. transfer student panels, transfer workshops, etc.); and
• Assist with campus tours and other TPP promotional events.
30% •     Assist with other Office of Admissions projects or duties as needed
•     Responsible for reporting to TPP outreach staff on a weekly basis about progress of assigned caseload;
•     Must attend content-area training and mandatory in-service workshops as appropriate to job duties.
•     Additional administrative support as directed.
•     Represent the Office of Admissions and the campus as a whole at assigned outreach/yield activities.

The UCSC Transfer Prep Program (TPP) identifies and supports prospective transfer students from area California community colleges and assists them in transferring to the University of California. We conduct outreach to community college students attending the regional community colleges (Cabrillo, Canada, College of San Mateo, DeAnza, Evergreen Valley, Foothill, Gavilan, Hartnell, Mission, Monterey Peninsula, San Jose City, and Skyline College). As a part of the Admissions Office, TPP strives to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and or low-income students that transfer to the University of California. We provide a range of services, all with the goal of exposing students to their options as transfer students.

•     Hired employees may be required to provide documentation of a completed TB test (within the past two years), or complete a TB test prior to the first date of work.
•     Hired employees may also have to complete a background check
Applicant must have reliable transportation to visit colleges in San Jose and Monterey area.
Hired students will be expected to conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism and to act as a role model and mentor to their peers.
