Skills Required: The Student Sustainability Adviser (SSA) must live on campus in the community they will serve. 7 positions are available in the following areas:
- Cowell/Stevenson;
- Crown/Merrill;
- 9/10;
- Porter/Kresge/Redwood Grove;
- Camper Park/University Town Center/The Village;
- Family Student Housing/Grad Housing;
- Rachel Carson/Oakes.

Student Sustainability Advisers are student leaders within UC Santa Cruz’s residential communities who:
Provide programming and educational opportunities within UC Santa Cruz’s residential communities around sustainability topics; share events and information with the residents of their communities about sustainability and environmental behavior; serve as sustainability liaisons within CHES (Colleges, Housing, & Educational Services);
Implement projects on campus that forward campus sustainability goals, strategies, and first-year actions as guided by the 2017-2022 Campus Sustainability Plan.

Hours per week: 10-12

A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required at the time of application and through the term of employment. Any candidate who is on judicial probation will not be considered for employment.

Duties will begin no earlier than September 10, 2018 and will continue through the end of the academic year on June 16, 2019.

Compensation:
$1,500 perquisite, per quarter, applied toward housing costs. PLEASE NOTE that this position is compensated through a rent credit position, not an hourly wage.
Skills Preferred: Enthusiasm for participating in UCSC’s commitment to sustainability and interest in the UC Santa Cruz Campus Sustainability Plan;
Demonstrated experience as a self-starter;
Ability to work individually as well as with a team;
Passion to learn about sustainability and the environment.
Percentage of Time Duty
40% Campus Sustainability Plan Project Implementation:

Choose, research, and implement a Campus Sustainability Plan first-year action with another SSA; engage and collaborate with on-campus stakeholders; participate in a SSA Team Collaboration on a specialized sustainability project – to be determined! In Academic Year 2017-18, SSAs recovered food nightly from on-campus cafes and donated it to the SUA Food Pantry – this Team Collaboration has kept over a half ton of food out of the compost/landfill and has helped to fight food insecurity on campus.
40% Support/Create/Participate in Community Events:

Create two (2) sustainability-related events/programs per quarter in your college/unit; support move-in and move-out efforts; educate and familiarize residents with sustainable behaviors and campus sustainability goals; work with residential life staff, including RAs and the community Liaison to promote sustainability within your community.
20% Administrative/Professional Development:

Participate in weekly team meetings; attend professional development training opportunities offered on campus and through the Sustainability Office; develop and execute a work plan; participate in Sustainability Office-sponsored events, such as student staff orientation, Inter-Org Retreat, California Higher Education Sustainability Conference, and other events as necessary; keep an updated time log of hours worked.
