Job Description
Skills Required: The SSA must live on campus in the community they will serve and one position is available for the following areas: Cowell/Stevenson.

The SSA’s primary role is to raise awareness and offer educational opportunities within their designated communities about the many ways in which campus residents can positively affect and contribute to UCSC’s sustainability goals.

The SSA will collaborate with staff members and with sustainability experts from across campus to support and improve rates of recycling, waste reduction, energy and water conservation, composting, food waste reduction, use of green products, and patronage of green business.

All necessary training will be provided.

Work Schedule:
12 hours per week on average.

Requirements:
Knowledgeable about sustainable living and enthusiastic about helping residential students adopt sustainable behaviors

A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required at the time of application and through the term of employment.

Duties will begin September 5,2017 and continue through graduation weekend at the end of the academic year, with move-out at noon on Monday, June 18, 2018.

Any candidate who is on judicial probation will not be considered for employment.

Supervision:
The SSA will be supervised by the SSA Coordinator for all-SSA meetings and responsibilities, as well as the SSA Student Administrative Assistant/Peer Leader.

Compensation:
$1500 perquisite, per quarter, applied toward housing costs. (Note: this is a rent credit position--not an hourly wage).

50% Support/Create/Participate In Community Events
Provide/present programs in college/unit to meet expectations
Monitor community compliance and recommend initiatives to improve that compliance.
Work with residential life staff to promote “green” events.
Support move-in and move-out efforts.
Familiarize residents with campus sustainability goals and expectations related to residential life.
25% Education and Role Modeling
Act as a role model regarding practices and attitudes in support of sustainability efforts.
Be a resource to other staff members and community members on issues and best practices of sustainability
25% Ongoing Training, Meeting Participation, Reporting
Regularly meet with the SSAs group as led by the SSA Supervisor.
Attend training sessions as they are made available.
Document and quantify community efforts re sustainability.
