Job Description
Skills Required: The Campus Commencement Program serves ten colleges, the Graduate Division and other major Student Celebrations. Preparation for commencements includes a wide range of activities prior to, during and after each ceremony and graduation weekend. Requires ability to provide services in the preparation and production of East/West Field Commencement events. Ability to perform physically demanding work for several hours at a time using proper safety. Ability to lift reasonably heavy equipment and to carry out instructions independently. Duties also include guest assistance, assistance with recycling efforts, meeting vendors for campus deliveries and post commencement clean up Monday, June 17. Ability to work in a professional manner with strong communication skills, especially with performers, staff and sponsors, guests.
Skills Preferred: Familiarity with past graduation ceremonies. Knowledge of event set up practices. Training and orientation will be provided.
Current CA driver's license.
Percentage of Time Duty
30% Set up and break down of facilities for special events & programs, including set up of tables, chairs, recycling stations, traffic control and signage etc., working with various College staff, Graduate Division staff and Student Celebration Staff to insure event logistics and details are addressed properly.
5% Assist with meeting various vendors for scheduled deliveries on both the east and west fields to insure order is complete and proper placement of equipment and delivered goods.
60% Greet and provide customer service to guests, assist with guests with mobility concerns during programs & events.
5% Responsible for regularly checking in with work crew manager and independently carrying out assignments and reporting hours. Responsible for becoming familiar with campus policies and regulations as they relate to the event productions, fire, security, parking, alcohol use, etc.

Special Comments: Must be willing to work on nights and weekends. Must be committed to tasks as assigned. Strong communication skills a must and ability to work under time pressures. On campus students may be eligible to extend their move out to accommodate commencement work schedule.
