Job Description
Skills Required: Prior experience in custodial work in residential facilities, and in making minor maintenance household repairs.

Ability to exercise good judgment and sensitivity when working with fellow staff.

Ability to work both alone and in groups, and to work at times with minimal supervision.

Ability to train, lead and provide assistance to other crewmembers in the cleaning and turnover of apartments in residential buildings. Possession of interpersonal skills sufficient to lead and communicate effectively with a diverse work crew. Ability to provide crewmembers with feedback on the quality and completeness of work

Must demonstrate proper and safe cleaning techniques, and must be able to understand and follow directions with minimal supervision,

Experience in performing general custodial duties, including the use of cleaning chemicals and other custodial supplies. Familiarity with techniques for cleaning floors, ceilings and walls, windows, tiles, residential ovens, cupboards, counter tops refrigerators, toilets, and bathtubs.

Ability to strip and wax vinyl and hardwood floors, to sweep and mop floors, and to clean carpets with a hot-water extraction cleaner.

Possession of a California Drivers License and a good driving record.

50% Leads and trains the summer student custodial crew in the cleaning and turnover of apartments in Housing areas under the direction of the staff Custodian. Gives written and oral instructions to crewmembers, Consistently supports and educates fellow crewmembers in proper techniques to successfully complete tasks.

Coordinates the scheduling of the work crew in accordance of the turn over schedule, provides crew with direction, mediates conflicts between crew members, and works to maintain morale and productivity of the crew.

Ensures that safety standards are met and that employees are regularly informed of proper safety standards including the use of personal protective equipment.

Maintains attention to detail and meets deadlines.

Performs inspections and develops material lists. Confirms accurate reporting of student staff time. Is responsible for building security and assigned keys during work hours. Perform other various duties as assigned.
50% Using University approved custodial chemicals and supplies, clean floors, ceilings, walls, windows, tiles, ovens, cupboards, counter tops, refrigerators, toilets, and bath tubs. Strip and wax floors (tile and hardwood) and dust, sweep and mop floors. Shampoo carpets

The job is for coverage at Family Student Housing, which is part of the West Facilities Zone at UCSC.
