Job Description
Skills Required: - Possession of a valid license to drive in California and a good driving record.
- Ability to safely move containers and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Must be punctual, and able to reliably balance work commitment with academic workload.
- Must be willing to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
- Ability to comprehend and implement recycling policies and procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision including the ability to make decisions in the management of projects.
- Ability to work effectively and politely in dealing with diverse groups of people.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work in a no smoking environment.
Skills Preferred: - Basic knowledge of Word and Excel programs.
- Passion for recycling and waste diversion on campus.
- Experience in other jurisdictions regarding recycling programs and practice.
Percentage of Time Duty
60% Make regular weekly rounds of the campus recycle areas to transport and empty intermediate collection containers into storage bins. Activities may include assistance with recycling projects and small jobs as required. Assistant shall contribute to the cleaning and maintenance of equipment as needed, including sort line, recycling bins, corporate yard, and trucks.
35% Participation in coordinated sorting of mixed recycling materials on the Recycling Crew sort line. Sort line activities occur in 2 - 3 hour sessions, carried out 2 - 3 times per week.
5% Post-consumer battery sorting in preparation for delivery/shipping to recycling vendor.

Special Comments: We are looking for about 15 upbeat, motivated people to work with the campus recycling program during the academic year. Our work day is from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Variable shifts are available throughout the week.
