Job Description
Skills Required: This maintenance position requires prior experience and advanced facilities repair skills. Those skills may have been developed through either previous facilities maintenance work or work in construction. Demonstrated skill in painting, plumbing repair, basic electrical repair, carpentry, and window and lock hardware repair is required. The Senior Specialist reports directly to the Central Zone Supervisor.

Demonstrated ability to safely use hand and power tools.

Ability to follow directions and pay close attention to detail is critical.

Must be positive, responsible, reliable, and work well with others. Must be punctual. Must be flexible and work where help is needed, including occasional office administration work. Work also may entail providing assistance or information to contractors and vendors in support of repair and maintenance projects.

Ability to both follow and provide good written and oral instructions to coworkers and residents; to exercise good judgment and sensitivity and exercise tact when communicating with residents, University staff, and on-site contractors; to remain positive with fellow crew members; to offer instructions to other employees if directed; to maintain a sustained focus when dealing with a heavy workload.

A strong willingness to learn and apply new skills and a willingness to get dirty if necessary.

Applicant must be licensed to drive in the state of CA and possess a good driving record.

Must maintain tact and offer excellent customer service.

Must possess the ability to lift and carry items of up to 50 lbs., with or without accommodation; to work from stepladders; to perform work overhead; and to perform tasks requiring repetitive motion.

The selected candidate will be finger printed and a background check will be performed.
Skills Preferred: Prior successful university Facilities maintenance experience; preferable background as a Maintenance Specialist. These positions require a commitment to working with us throughout the Summer (one week off) in a leadership position with better appropriate compensation. Discounted housing is available for the Summer.
Percentage of Time Duty
70% Perform maintenance and repairs for college housing areas under the guidance of the Senior Building Maintenance Supervisor; work with hand and power tools to refinish/repair furniture; assist with preventive maintenance and repairs on plumbing fixtures, door hardware, windows, light fixtures, and electrical switches; and assist on special projects as directed. Assignment will cover the entire Central Zone.

Train and lead other maintenance assistants.
10% Perform painting, drywall repair and custodial duties in housing areas as assigned. Work requires the use of ladders and painting supplies, the lifting/moving of furniture and 5 gallon paint buckets, as well as tools and equipment; the use of cleaning chemicals/solvents and respirators; with instruction, work in compliance university and OSHA standards when working with household hazardous materials.

15% Assist maintenance staff in conducting facilities inspections, collecting facilities data, and developing schedules. Notify staff of maintenance supply purchasing needs.
5% Make pickups and deliveries using University vehicle; be responsible for securing facilities and equipment in assigned areas; perform other job-related duties as assigned.
