Job Description
Skills Required: Strong oral and written communication skills: correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Math (Algebra 1&2, Geometry, Trigonometry, willingness to work with new Common Core Math Standards), Science (biology, elementary physics and chemistry, earth science), high school Spanish or French, English, World/US History.

Work confidentially and with discretion. Ability to work with 9th-11th grade students. Work independently to accomplish goals set by district staff. Digital / Computer literate.
Skills Preferred: Math and/or science proficiency a plus.
Familiarity with AVID a plus but not necessary.
Percentage of Time Duty
100% Assist and monitor a variety of students in all subjects with an emphasis on writing and mathematics. Provide tutorials to individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. Participate in AVID Tutorology training provided by the HS Staff.

Special Comments: AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program developed to provide students who have the potential but for a variety of reasons (first to attend college, under-represented at the college level, traumatic life experiences) who without the support; may not have the opportunity to attend college. AVID provides students with both the academic and social support to succeed. AVID tutors are an integral component of helping AVID students to reach their academic and personal goals.
Students must provide their own transportation. Experience as an AVID student/tutor or currently enrolled in UCSC education or mathematics programs is desirable.
