Skills Preferred: Skills Knowledge and Abilities Preferred: Previous library experience and knowledge of Library of Congress Classification System. Experience with computer related systems and applications. Experience dealing with sensitive issues and problems.
Percentage of Time Duty
85% Collection Maintenance: Perform all duties required to maintain the collections at the University Libraries: includes shelving, picking up loose library materials for reshelving, sorting and shelf-reading while maintaining a high level of accuracy; maintaining records and statistics on in-house use of materials using an on-line circulation system. Participate in the preservation of the collections: conduct routine inspections of collection to determine mending needs. Participate in collection maintenance projects: assist in measuring the collection, shift collection as needed to accommodate growth and alleviate crowded areas; participate in collection move projects; move and assemble library shelving units, straighten furniture, replace missing bookends. Search for misplaced materials as needed. Use Alma to search and interpret item and bibliographic records.
10% Public Service: Assist patrons in the collections/stacks; help them find materials and provide directions. Perform regular patrols of public areas to ensure that library and campus policy is followed. Interpret, implement, and enforce library and campus policies. Report building problems to appropriate library staff; report uncooperative patrons to staff supervisor. Provide ADA assistance
5% Other duties within classification: Check e-mail routinely for communication from supervisors; routinely communicate status of on-going projects; pull material from stacks as needed. Provide back-up in other Access Services units as needed; other duties as assigned.
