Job Description
Skills Required: Under the direction of the Lionel Cantú Queer Center Director, the Graduate Education Coordinator will assist the Program Coordinator and Trans Education Specialist in managing multiple undergraduate student projects at the Cantú, including leading the center business team; provide supervisory and mentoring support to the undergraduate interns at the Cantú ; build programming to foster community for and retention of queer and trans graduate students; work with Graduate Assistants (GAs) from the other Resource Centers (RCs) to promote graduate student wellness and professional development; develop and oversee all aspects of the Cantú volunteer program including recruitment and training of new volunteers; and assist with overall administrative and leadership support for the Cantú Queer Center.

The graduate student intern will share a commitment with the professional staff to developing a resource center that serves the intersectional needs and identities of queer and trans students at UCSC, particularly marginalized queer and trans student populations including queer and trans students of color, and queer and trans students who are undocumented, first-generation, disabled, and/or utilize Smiths Renaissance services.

Experience in:
Mentorship, particularly with historically marginalized college-aged students
Providing feedback, support, and professional development for supervisees
Dialogue facilitation and workshop design
Developing and implementing educational programming (e.g. discussion series, panels, book clubs, and speakers)
Managing logistics for large- and small-scale events (e.g. mixers, luncheons, and meet-ups)
Building community around intersectional identities
Honest reflection on professional strengths and areas for growth
A collaborative approach to leadership
Organizational systems
Contemporary and historical conversations and theories on gender and sexuality

Skills Preferred: Prefer experiences with LGBTQIA+ identity development/support

Prefer experiences in LGBTQIA+ and/or QTPOC community organizing spaces
Prefer experiences in higher education and student affairs environments

Percentage of Time Duty
20% Mentor and Co-Supervise Undergraduate Interns at Cantú Queer Center
* Conduct 1:1 check-ins with 2-3 center interns weekly, providing mentorship and professional feedback to develop and reach goals, as well as academic check-ins and support as needed
* Identify articles and other media to support ongoing professional development and training of undergraduate student interns; develop, schedule and market professional development opportunities to undergraduate interns
* Support the efforts for the weekly publication of QConnect, the weekly center newsletter

30% Supervision of the Cantú's Volunteer Program
* Be the key point of contact for people interested in volunteering at the Cantú and help onboard new volunteers
*Outreach, train and support volunteers to help support the daily operations of the center
*Identify areas for administrative and leadership support that can be fulfilled by volunteers and connect volunteers to these functions at the center
* Identify articles, youtube videos and other media pieces for ongoing training and professional development for volunteers


25% Undergraduate Student Programming Support
* Develop educational programming in response to community interest and need
* Support Program Coordinator in planning and executing large-scale events out of the center
* Create flyers and marketing to promote events; contribute to maintenance of social media presence
* Lead the center business team: complete CruzBuy training to support with creating Purchase Orders and teaching business team interns how to do so; assist with maintenance of financial records as needed
* Support as needed with RC collaborative programs in conjunction with Grad Assistants from the other Resource Centers
25% Graduate Student Programming & Support Services
* Host monthly Queer Graduate Student lunches; create marketing and menu for each lunch
*Meet regularly with the Graduate Assistants (GAs) from the other Resource Centers (RCs)
*Partner with the GAs from the other RCs to provide graduate students with programs that support professional development and grad student wellness
* Develop 1-2 additional programs throughout each quarter that serve to engage and retain LGBTQIA+ Graduate students at UCSC

Special Comments: Work Schedule: 20 Hours per week at $27/hour for up to 39 total weeks, plus a Quarterly Scholarship to cover the cost of in-state tuition & fees ($6,088.33 per quarter based upon actual UC fees).
