Job Description
Skills Required: -Extensive knowledge of the print aspect of Student Media and affiliated student publications, and ability to communicate that knowledge to new student members
-Excellent management and organizational skills and attention to detail
-Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
-Experience working with a diverse student population
-Ability to plan agendas, and facilitate meetings of student representatives
-Accuracy in recording information, and keeping good notes on all meetings
-Willingness to learn and apply university policies
-Ability to work occasional nights and weekends

Skills Preferred: -Knowledge of Student Media operations and culture, including SOMeCA’s student agency model, strongly recommended
-Note: SOMeCA: SOAR, Student Media and Cultural Arts & Diversity
-Experience with Mac OS and professional graphic design applications such as Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign and PhotoShop), strongly recommended
-Basic knowledge of media law as it applies to Student Media organizations, desirable

Percentage of Time Duty
60% (30%) — Meet regularly with the Print Advisor, and working with the advisor, plan, organize and publicize trainings for the print organizations, including InDesign and PhotoShop workshops, Book Design and any additional trainings. If the student employee’s skills are suited, they could also teach the workshops, as well as mentor individual students/organizations in the use of these applications. Also working with the Print Advisor, ensure all Media Law/Ethics and Diversity & Media requirements are completed, reviewed and responded to in a timely manner.
(10%) — Meet with student leaders from print organizations to support them in developing timelines, acquiring submissions, finding funding sources and applying for funding (both in written and oral proposals). Support financial representatives in managing ledgers and budgets. Coordinate planning for Extrav(m)ganza and other print-related events.
(10%) — Represent the print aspect of Student Media at media-related events and meetings, as well as other relevant university events. Attend all meetings of Student Media Council and Student Media staff, and any other meetings deemed necessary. Understand Student Media’s mission and goals, as well as the missions, goals and needs of the print organizations, to ensure accurate representation at these meetings. Coordinate outreach and provide publicity/announcement info to campus departments (including liaising with the Literature Department’s creative writing interns) to ensure Student Media’s print organizations are interconnected throughout campus.
(10%) — Hold office hours, and be available for students to schedule appointments.
20% Facilitate Print Council Meetings: Draft agendas that include goals, current and prospective projects, and outreach. Facilitate a regular meeting of Print Council members (weekly, biweekly or monthly, schedule to be determined by the Print Council members and the advisor). Coordinate projects and individuals, and track their progress to completion. Ensure minutes are kept for all meetings.
15%
Work with Student Media Web Developer and Marketing Representative to support the print aspect of Student Media. Plan and draft blog posts, provide direction on design and layout. Promote the website, and encourage print organizations to develop their own sites.
5% Assist Student Media staff with miscellaneous tasks as assigned (digital and hard-copy archiving for print organizations, workshop and event setup, etc.)
