Experience working in pantry setting for a minimum of 28 hours and received formal pantry training.
Demonstrates ability to provide management and operational support to monitor compliance with food pantry, Second Harvest Food Bank, and university policies as well as relevant state and federal laws.
Must be intimately knowledgeable and have an understanding of food pantries and food insecurity at UCSC.

Special Conditions:
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.
Must be able to smell and see in order to examine food.
Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs with or without accommodation.
Must be able to speak basic English.
Ability to travel to and participate in university related business, conferences, meetings, and events
outside of normal business hours.
Must be able to attend trainings with multiple departments and campus units, as well as training for manager’s food handling, confidentiality, fair hiring, sensitivity, etc.
Must be able and willing to respond to student inquiries outside of normal business hours.



Skills Preferred: Experience in working for the SUA Food Pantry or a UCSC pantry for 1 year.
Ability and skills in managing large budgets, fundraising, and financial analysis.
Experience with managing and mediation.
Experience working with students in crisis.

100% Job Function Summary:
Involves a wide range of management and supervising for the Student Union Assembly (SUA) Food Pantry and Lounge. Provides support to the Vice President of Student Life (VPSL) in events, programs, staffing, recruitment, and management for the SUA Food Pantry and Lounge. Advises the VPSL on structure and needs of the pantry and reports to the VPSL on any changes that need to be made for the pantry.

Generic Scope:
Oversees SUA Food Pantry and Lounge programming through strong leadership and management skills. Has significant responsibility to achieve broader set goals made by the VPSL. Determines quarterly objectives, develops strategies and programs, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Proactively assesses new ways to improve the pantry and what can be accomplished within each quarter.

Department Overview:
The SUA Food Pantry and Lounge is a student led food resource that provides free groceries for all undergraduate students. The pantry was founded by Tamra Owens, 2016-2018 SUA VP of Student Life, in the Spring of 2017. The pantry has been open for two years and has many opportunities where students can both
receive and provide support. The daily operations are 12:00pm-6:00pm in OPERS facility by the check-in desk
and pool.

Key Responsibilities:
40% - Programming: Implement programs that enhance pantry resources for students and the space. Execute events that promote pantry and overall health of students, boost employee morale, and contribute to growth of pantry. Lead new volunteer trainings and co-facilitate new shift lead trainings along with other internal annual pantry trainings (sensitivity, food handling trainings, etc.). Create at least three programs and/or events each quarter.

20% - Employee Relations: Has responsibility for the following employee related areas within the SUA Food Pantry. Assesses short and long-term goals; providing guidance, feedback, and direction on events and programs, improvements of the pantry, and pantry structure; develops new initiatives and programs for the pantry to take on, as well as promoting a culture of assessment and continuous improvement utilizing evidence-based decision-making strategies.
Management: Assign shifts to shift leads when necessary for events and programs. Create monthly calendars outlining important dates, programs and events for the month. Cultivate a space of sharing between shift leads on ideas for future programs and events. Communicate frequently with shift leads about program changes or upcoming events. Monitor the anonymous feedback form and complaint resolution form. Facilitate disputes or conflicts in the pantry, should they arise. Revise and improve materials from past years trainings regarding programs and events. Manage pantry feedback form/testimonies from clients.
Accountability: Track shift lead and volunteer attendance for programs and events. Monitor shift lead participation. Run end of quarter check-in surveys and processes for shift leads and volunteers. Maintain and implement accountability plans as necessary, in coordination with VP of Student Life.
Recruitment: Develop plan for recruitment outreach for volunteers. Execute recruitment events for new volunteers:
Schedule the recruitment timeline and outreach
Schedule tabling and publicity during recruitment
Design and purchase of flyers
Prepare slides and booking rooms/spaces for the information sessions
Prepare applicant evaluation system
Email all applicants about trainings and updates

15% - Communication: Shows strong communication skills through open dialogue with shift leads and the VP of Student Life. Prepares agendas for general meetings with the help of the Operations Pantry Manager. Co-facilitates monthly meetings with Operations Pantry Manager and the VP of Student Life. Manage suapntry@ucsc.edu email and respond to emails in a timely manner. Manage and organize Google Drive.

15% - Statistical Analysis: Perform data analysis of sign-ins in the pantry each week. Create a graph comparison of the data with unduplicated and duplicated students. Reports all sheets to the drive and has all sheets completed by set deadline of the VP of Student Life.

10% - Budget Management and Financial Analysis: Manage the pantry events, programs, and supplies budgets. Develop creative financial solutions and make projections using present and future values. Works closely with VP of Student Life for budget evaluation and decision-making. Create purchase order requests for programs, events, supplies, and any necessary items for programming in the pantry.
