Must be intimately knowledgeable and have an understanding of food pantries and food insecurity at UCSC.
Demonstrates ability to provide management and operational support to monitor compliance with food pantry, Second Harvest Food Bank, and university policies as well as relevant state and federal laws.
Interpersonal skills
Experience working in pantry setting for a minimum of 8 hours and received formal pantry training.

Special Conditions:
Must have worked in the pantry for a minimum of 8 hours.
Must have attended at least one pantry training.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.
Must be able to smell and see in order to examine food.
Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs with or without accommodation.
Must be able to speak some English.
Must be able to attend trainings with multiple departments and campus units, as well as training for food handling, confidentiality, sensitivity, etc.
Must be able and willing to respond to student issues outside of normal business hours.

Involves a wide range of supervision and operations for the SUA Food Pantry and Lounge. Provides support to Operations Pantry Manager in daily pantry operations and deliveries. Provides support to Programming Pantry Manager in events and programs. Assists overall pantry function under VP of Student Life. Advises Pantry Managers and VPSL on structure and needs of the pantry and reports to Pantry Managers and VPSL on any changes that need to be made for the pantry.

Generic Scope
Executes operations and programs of SUA Food Pantry and Lounge with moderate independence. Has responsibility over pantry’s day-to-day success and program completion. Oversees and supervises volunteers, manages pantry space and cleanliness, and reports on any developments in pantry space with general supervision from the Pantry Managers. Proactively assesses new ways to improve the pantry and what can be accomplished within each quarter.

Department Overview
The SUA Food Pantry and Lounge is a student led food resource that provides free groceries for all
undergraduate students. Was first founded by Tamra Owens, 2016-2018 SUA VP of Student Life, in the
Spring of 2017. The pantry has been open for two years now and has many ways that students can both receive and give help. The daily operations are 12:00pm-6:00pm in OPERS facility by the check-in desk and pool.

Responsibilities of the role include:


70% - Daily Operations
-Shifts: Responsible for opening and closing pantry each shift. Completes a daily assessment at the beginning and end of each shift. Shift leads will be on-call during shifts. Responds to any pantry emergencies or urgent matters that requires shift lead to come to the pantry. If volunteer drops shift, shift lead is required to be at the pantry to keep pantry open.
-1:1 Student Engagement: Responsible for engaging with students and educating students on resources on-campus, specifically for basic needs or financial aid. If a student comes in about Calfresh, advises students on what their options are and when they can meet with a Calfresh Ambassador.
-Cleanliness: Responsible for maintaining pantry space through cleaning and organizing space at the beginning and ending of each shift. Assessing the space for any hazards that could contaminate food or the pantry.

20% - Communication
-Volunteers: Has responsibility for keeping constant communication with volunteers. Gives clear instructions or updates to volunteers through either text, email, or phone call. If volunteer is confused or needs help, shift lead is expected to respond in a timely matter. Shift leads should strive to show volunteers more about pantry operations and even have them shadow during shift lead work.
-Pantry Team: Has responsibility for keeping constant communication with other Shift leads, Pantry Managers, and VPSL. Reports on any changes to the pantry through chosen communication with pantry team. Have active open dialogue to keep team updated and to be proactive.
-Social Media: Shift leads are expected to be present on the SUA Pantry Facebook page to give updates about the pantry. Responsible for increasing FB page followers, activity of FB page, and engagement with students interested in pantry.

10% - Pantry Trainings and Meetings
Shift leads are expected to attend mandatory pantry trainings and meetings. Shift leads are required to have food handling training, sensitivity training, Calfresh training, and overall pantry training, plus any training that is added each year. Responsible for attending monthly meetings where a report back of the month will be given.
