Job Description
Skills Required: Excellent communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment, including typing and filing. Basic computer (Mac). Attention to detail and ability to follow through on projects. Ability to work independently at times and to show initiative. Must enjoy talking to people.
Skills Preferred: Must be available to work 6-10 hrs per week. Prefer a biology Major in good academic standing. Knowledge of campus resources and policies. Enjoy helping other students.
Percentage of Time Duty
45% Provide clerical and reception support in the MCD-BIOL undergraduate office. Reporting to the Departmental Undergraduate Advising Coordinator the assistant will undertake reception duties in the office, providing information to students by email, in person and through workshops, and orienting students to the informational resources provided. Screening students during drop in advising; managing the front desk and waiting room area. Explaining requirements for MCD Undergrad majors and minor. Providing a student’s perspective on courses. Answering general questions.
40% Create, maintain, or update student files, databases, bulletin boards and binders. Reproducing, collating, distribution, and posting of various forms and memos. Enter data, type and draft correspondence, reports, tables and charts using a Mac computer, Microsoft Office programs.
15% Assist with special projects with other staff members as required, including website updates, create flyers to post announcements and assisting students with graduation checks.
