Job Description
Skills Required: Ability to follow directions. Strong knowledge of the campus, specifically the Cowell and Stevenson campuses, and the shuttle system.

Must feel comfortable working alone and in small teams, taking direction from others, as well as stepping into the lead when assigned or needed.
Skills Preferred: Create a welcoming and hospitable environment at a conference with attendees of all ages from all over the world.

Catering experience preferred. Should be able to arrange and present food creatively and pleasingly.

Comfortable working with or learning how to use A/V equipment, explicitly connecting laptops to overhead projectors and turning microphones on and off. Learning Technologies media technicians will orient staff to equipment and will be on-call if staff are unable to troubleshoot any unexpected issues. Team member must feel comfortable stepping in to offer assistance to presenters when needed, as well as asking for help when they are unable to fix any issues themselves.
Percentage of Time Duty
50% Event support for the Dickens Universe conference: Assist during teeshirt and merchandise sale on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. Must feel comfortable with cash handling, credit card processing, and answering questions about the merchandise.

Conduct simple podcast recordings Monday, July 15-Thursday, July 18.

Set up exhibit in Pickard Smith Gallery on Thursday, July 11. Staff exhibit Monday, July 15-Thursday July 18.

Staff Dickens Project Library Monday, July 15-Thursday July 18 during lunch and dinner times (1:00-2:00 PM; 6:15-7:15 PM).
20% Grand Party early shift: Slice cakes and cheeses, prepare platters and bowls, set up tables and arrange food dishes. Assist in setting up beverage area and lights. Move furniture and set up chairs. This shift is from 2:30-8:30 PM on Thursday, July 19.

Grand Party late shift: During the event (9:00-10:30 PM), make sure food tables are kept clean and organized, trash and recycling are removed, dirty dishes are moved to staging/cleaning area. This shift is from 5:30 to 11:30 PM on Thursday, July 19.
20% Registration: Concierge during registration (2:00-4:00 PM). Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14. Help participants find their apartments and assist with luggage.

Check-Out: Concierge during check out (8:00-10:00 AM) on Saturday, July 20. Lead participants to airport shuttles and assist with luggage.
10% Field Trip – Norris Center for Natural History (on campus): On Tuesday, July 16, from 1:45-4:00 PM, lead a small group to Natural Sciences 2 Building. A staff member will lead the tour. Ensure group boards bus there and back.

Field Trip – UCSC Arboretum: On Wednesday, July 17, from 1:45-4:00 PM, lead a small group to the Arboretum. A docent will lead tour. Ensure group boards bus there and back.
